Marketing foreplay, really?

No relax! This isn’t a contentious obscene material.

It is about marketers wooing customers, to turn them on. And both of them humans. How different it could get? Human behaviors are the same and only the context differ!

Customers flee from intrusive marketers, as they feel stalked. They play it safe. Over 67% decisions are done before they start touching you!

Instant gratification? Far from it!

You should be kidding. Foreplay is the only thing humans do without asking for an instant high. So should marketing be, I feel.

I spoke to over 100 marketers in the last quarter. Regardless of the size of the business, there is only one challenge. One marketing guy put it nicely, “I do Facebook ads, get a lot of traffic, and few form fills. But when we call, they simply not talk!” My response was, “Are you looking for instant gratification?

Does this mean to nurture them before talking? Oh no, let’s not throw a process at emotions. Pushing it hard won’t help. Don’t you see, they fear of being stalked?

Pain points or pleasure points?

For centuries we marketers are taught to address customer pain-points. If there is none, create one! Phew! Ultimately, we need to instill fear and portray our brand as the savior.

In foreplay, that’s the last thing you do. Don’t scare, but to unseal the pleasure points.

Why not you show the pleasure peaks the customers can reach with your products? I don’t mean any toys here (pun intended). Your products have the benefits that can make them happy, achieve their goals, and more.

Do you make your customers happy?

You want to, isn’t? But do you just do it for money or care for their happiness?

Professional foreplay is mechanical. Lead nurturing drip campaigns feel that way, if done that way.

In genuine relationships, one care for the other, and passionate about each other. Do you care for your customer happiness? Do you know them enough? Or simply want to sell your product?
